New DC for Durham City District

Date: 30th Jan 2022 Author: Slimer

We launched a search for a new District Commissioner in Autumn last year inviting nominations and applications. The Search Group of representatives from across the district shared its recommendations earlier this month.

I am delighted to be able to share with you that following the Search Group’s work, a selection process, and the agreement of the County Appointments Advisory Committee, Jayne Gibson has accepted Bryan Johnson’s invitation to become the new District Commissioner of Durham City and District Scouts.

Many of you will know Jayne from the roles she has held in the District as DESC supporting Explorer Scouting and as a Leader with the Chalmers Explorer Scout Unit partnered with 5th Durham.

Jayne will bring management and leadership experience developed in her working life, along with her considerable Scouting experience and knowledge. Jayne is a real advocate for Scouting and values what it offers young people and adults. We are certain that Jayne will continue to develop the strength of Scouting in our district.

Jayne will officially commence her role on the 1st February.
HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
