Local DUSAGG Student honours HM Queen Elizabeth
A local DUSAGG (Durham University Scout and Guide Group) member was recently selected to support Operation Feather, the scouting cohort supporting at HM Queen Elizabeths lying in state in London. At a time when the country was in shock, being part of this cohort was an amazing tribute to Queen Elizabeth.
Matthew Says: It was an amazing experience, and something I’ll never forget being part of. As you may have seen on social media, our main role was supporting the final couple of hours of the queue in Victoria Tower Gardens, giving out food, water and blankets and preparing people for security checks. We also collected around four tonnes of food which was donated to local food banks. All this attracted quite a lot of media attention, but unfortunately, I was on night shifts so didn’t manage to get featured!
We give thanks to Matthew for being one of those volunteers who represented Durham City District and Durham Scout County at the lying in state proceedings!
