Developing Scouting for Younger Children
Developing Scouting for Younger Children
Some of you may have seen a note this morning from Tim Kidd, the UK Chief Commissioner
regarding opportunities to pilot a new programme for four and five-year-olds. This is an exciting
development which not only allows us to engage with young people at an earlier age, but the
experience in the USA has shown that the recruitment of adult volunteers into the movement is
significantly greater when the early years programme was offered, with 75% of new parents
becoming volunteers.
I think it’s a great opportunity for groups to do something new and I would be keen to support any
groups in Durham City who would like to get involved in the pilot. I’m confident that if we were to
secure one of those projects we would get significant support from County, Region and the National
HQ too to ensure that it was a success.
